Who We Are

Picture
The Oahu Intertribal Council (OIC) is comprised of a small group of Native Americans who live in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. We are elders, retired folks, active military members, university students, volunteers, community partners, family members and friends. Because we are a diverse island community and far removed from our tribal reservations, OIC strives to incorporate Hawaiian values within our island powwow culture. In addition, many of our members represent various Polynesian, Asian, Hispanic, European and African American cultures.
OIC has been a very fluid organization over the last 45 years, as Native Americans represent over 570 federally recognized tribes in the U.S. and many of our tribal brothers and sisters come from Canadian Nations and beyond.
Our membership is connected through our desire to share and educate others about our culture through understanding the heartbeat of Native American drumming, musical styles of singing, traditional and modern dancing, creating arts and crafts, building new friendships, networking with new partners and respecting the wisdom of our elders.
