COVID 19 IMPACT STATEMENT
After careful consideration, the Oahu Intertribal Council has decided to cancel the 46th Annual Honolulu Intertribal Powwow scheduled for October 3rd and 4th, 2020 at Kapiolani Regional Park, Honolulu, Hawaii until further notice due to Covid-19.
It is with heavy hearts that we will not celebrate with our relatives across the pae ‘aina and Turtle Island in the same way this year. We recognize that native communities often face the brunt of social inequities, health concerns, and financial challenges during crises like the Covid-19 global pandemic. It is therefore especially disappointing to lose this opportunity to support our indigenous communities, families, and friends.
However, the health, wellbeing, and safety of our native relatives is of the utmost concern to our organization. The regulations on visitors, lodging, airlines, funding, and uncertainty of the upcoming months have all been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. We wish you and your families well. We look forward to our next gathering where we can celebrate, not only our traditions and fellowships, but our people’s innate ability to overcome challenges like these.
